If you have Jamie and Claire withdrawals as you await Outlander‘s return with season four, we have a small glimmer of good news to brighten your Tuesday.
Season five has essentially been confirmed, so take a deep breath, your Outlander addiction can continue on uninhibited.
At a panel interview in Los Angeles, Outlander producer Ronald D. Moore tells TVGuide.com: “We are deep into planning for Season 5 even though it’s not officially picked up.”
He went on to tell EW, “usual negotiations and conversations” had stalled an official confirmation from Starz.
“We are certainly going to do it,” he says. “I have no doubt we are doing a season five.”
Starz CEO Chris Albrecht has also spoken about seasons five and six at the Television Critics Association Press Tour in January.
“There are ten books, and we are having very productive conversations about the future of the show,” Chris says.
Season four is currently in production and is expected to air in the US towards the end of this year.
Following the format of a book per season, it will be based on Diana Gabaldon’s Drums of Autumn, and will see Jamie and Claire settle in the American colonies.
The pair meet up with Jamie’s Aunt Jocasta, encounter a new enemy and struggle to come to terms with slavery in the New World.
Ronald D. Moore spoke to Variety about the upcoming season: “There’s slavery, there’s American Indians, there’s a rebellion brewing up in New England that will become the American Revolution. And they land right smack dab in the middle of all this.”
Most importantly this season is the reunion we’ve all been waiting for – Jamie and Brianna.
Ahead of filming their key scene, Sam Heughan tells Variety: “It’s a huge moment and will be the catalyst to a lot of the drama that unfolds.”
Season four is shaping up to be full of drama; we’re getting excited just thinking about it.
