Australian pop princess Kylie Minogue has opened up about her honest reaction to the Neighbours reboot.

Speaking to Tay FM, the 55-year-old joked about the return of the Aussie soap following its official cancellation less than twelve months ago.

“How happy were you when you heard it was coming back?,” Tay FM asked Minogue, taking a small jab at the star-studded finale episode being a “waste of time.”

“Yeah, happy is probably not the emotion,” said Minogue, adding, “you know, miffed may have been the word.”

Prior to its cancellation in early 2022, Neighbours had been a regular programme on Australian TV for almost 40 years, with the series being slated to officially wrap up after the airing of the finale in July 2022.

The pop princess left the soap in 1988 to focus on her music career.

Throughout the 1980s, Minogue was a fan favourite amongst the Ramsay Street family, starring as the beloved mechanic Charlene until her departure from the show in 1988.

Minogue delighted fans when reprised her role for the 2022 finale alongside her on-screen husband Scott Robinson, played by fellow Aussie singer Jason Donovan.

Both Minogue and Donovan returned to Australia from the United Kingdom, filming their final scenes together alongside the rest of the cast in the place where it all began.

Despite the singer stating that she felt “quite a bit of pressure” to return to the show, Minogue assured fans that her return had not deliberately been orchestrated to kick-start the Neighbours revival.

“All the affection and love that went into the final episode was truth, so I’m happy for them now. I’m interested to see how it’s going to change,” she told Tay FM, adding that the show’s producers “genuinely didn’t know” that the beloved series would be continued.

Fellow Neighbours star and Australian Hollywood royalty Guy Pearce also shared a similar sentiment, telling The Sydney Morning Herald’s Good Weekend Talks podcast that he was “a little thrown” by the reboot.

“Obviously, if I’m going to extricate myself from the show, I want to do it respectfully,” he added, with the actor promising fans that he would guest star in the reboot for the sake of overall continuity.
