Cosy late-night chats in the kitchen after fellow Blockheads are in bed? It’s no wonder the growing friendship between the most unlikely of allies – Courtney and Adam – has raised eyebrows on The Block.
Especially as the tension between Adam’s wife Jolene and Courtney, 34, grows.
“How long did that go for? After midnight?” Jolene asked her husband on the show last week, after Adam was seen staying up into the wee hours consoling a teary, sleep-deprived Courtney after a tough week on the set of The Block.
“That sh*t’s gotta stop. It’s a competition. I need him to focus on what we’re doing,” says the 42-year-old cattle station manager.
But an on-set insider is adamant Jolene was never jealous – and the animosity between her and Courtney is purely competition-based.
In fact, the reason Adam clicked so easily with Courtney may have been because aspects of her personality were already very familiar to him.
Those working around the teams noticed Courtney and Jolene shared more similarities than their increasingly frosty relationship might suggest.
“They’re obviously very different women, but there are certain personality traits they share,” the insider tells Woman’s Day. “They’re confident, straightforward and comfortable taking up space.”
For someone like Adam, who has spent years around that kind of energy, Courtney was easy company.
Ironically, the very qualities that made Adam, 48, and construction site manager Courtney such easy mates may also explain why Courtney and Jolene have struggled to see eye to eye on the show.
“They are both strong women,” says the insider. “They can both be very direct, and they both know what they think.”
As the rivalry between Houses 1 and 4 intensifies on screen, viewers could be forgiven for wondering whether Adam’s easy friendship with Courtney may have added another layer of tension.
Those behind the scenes say it didn’t.
“She never looked at Courtney as some sort of threat,” insists the source of Jolene.
“Adam and Courtney were just mates,” the insider adds. “Put them together on a building site and they were basically two blokes on the tools, that’s all.”
