The Block’s Adam and Jolene have stepped up their game in recent episodes and it’s starting to lead to tension amongst the houses.
In an earlier chat with Woman’s Day, fellow contestant Tayla went as far as to label Adam a ‘snake’ – but it’s something the cattle station manager is laughing off.
“I’m still amused by it,” Adam told Woman’s Day. “I still don’t know what it [being called a snake] was about. I’m happy to supply Rick and Tayla with a year’s supply of snake lollies!”

Tayla previously told Woman’s Day that “smartass” Adam had frustrated her, with dad Rick chiming and saying, “Look, yeah they were in there to win the game. I went in there for the experience and if we’re fortunate enough to make money then great, but they were in there for one thing and one thing only.”
However Adam and Jolene told Woman’s Day that there wasn’t anything malicious about them stepping up to take the competition more seriously – they just wanted to step outside of their comfort zone.
“That wasn’t our frame of mind at all. I mean, yeah, we realise it’s a competition, but I wouldn’t say that we were like, oh my god, we need to come in here and win, live or die. We’re not those types of people,” Jolene said.
“I think we were just like, okay, we’ve had enough of coming second place now, let’s go outside our comfort zone and really start having a crack.”
The pair explained that they weren’t motivated by winning single rooms each week.
“It wasn’t about winning rooms. We wanted the whole house to be consistent. So if that meant that some weeks we didn’t win, that was okay because the whole house at the end of the game was going to be very consistent and flow really well.”
Jolene hits back at ‘mean’ misconception
When it comes to online chatter, many fans have loved watching the journey of the Outback couple navigating The Block. But one misconception the couple are ready to shut down is the narrative of Jolene being “mean” to Adam or lacking empathy.
“I probably don’t do great under pressure,” Jolene admits. “But we’re used to living hard and working even harder. I do say things very directly, but I’m also very self-conscious.”
While Adam said he doesn’t spend much time online, he was quick to crack jokes at the rumours, while admitting he doesn’t always listen.
“She’s not mean when I do exactly what she says, which I don’t because I don’t listen very well,” he added.
“I’m not mean to you, you goose,” Jolene laughed. “I actually said to our group chat the other day, I’m like, if everyone’s gonna gang up on me and say that I’m being mean to him, I might auction him with the house!”
