Fans of The Masked Singer Australia have been quick to call this season the best yet.

But it’s not just because the performances are reaching new levels of grandeur and flair. It’s been the camaraderie between the panellists – Abbie Chatfield, Chrissie Swan, Dave Hughes and Mel B – that has the quirky reality show reaching new heights this year.

“I think I’ve learnt the ropes quite quickly,” Abbie says. “I’m definitely better at guessing than Hughesy! But the gorgeous angel that is Chrissie Swan – she has the strategy down pat! She does the ‘vibe guess’ and then expands from that and it seems to work quite well.”

Recently, Abbie revealed on her radio show, Hot Nights With Abbie Chatfield, that she was diagnosed with ADHD. For women, being diagnosed in adulthood isn’t uncommon, as the symptoms presented in childhood can look different to the hyperactivity associated with the condition, most commonly seen in boys.

For Abbie, who felt she was always chasing her tail and forgetting things, the diagnosis has been a blessing.

“The medication is hard to get right – I’m still going to a psychiatrist to get that levelled out – but the diagnosis has helped explain a lot,” she says.

Thankfully, being neurodivergent does have its upside – especially for someone like Abbie, who has a podcast, a radio show and a fashion label in addition her The Masked Singer gig.

“I think my ADHD actually helps here, as I can do five million things at once,” she shares. “But also, I’ve always just been busy. I had three jobs when I was in Year 12 and worked full-time while at university. So yes, I’ve always been busy and worked hard.

“I don’t know – maybe I’m trying to avoid my feelings?” she laughs.
