Miranda Tapsell’s upcoming feature film Top End Wedding is set to have its World Premiere at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival.

The film was directed by Wayne Blair (The Sapphires, Cleverman), and co-written by Miranda and Joshua Tyler (Plonk).

Screen Australia made the exciting announcement earlier today that the film will be part of a historic Australian contingent to air at the renowned film festival, along with five other films.

Animals, I Am Mother, Judy and Punch, Little Monsters and Top End Wedding will all make their World Premieres at the Utah-based festival. The Nightingale will make its North American Premiere, after taking home the Special Jury Prize at this year’s Venice Film Festival.

Miranda Tapsell stars in Top End Wedding.

Miranda says she is excited to be a part of the prestigious film festival.

“Hearing the news that Top End Wedding has been accepted to The Sundance Film Festival is absolutely a dream come true,” she says.

“As a co-writer, producer and actor in this film, it’s been a labour of love for me and having the opportunity to showcase the Norther Territory to an international audience, through a different lens, at such a prestigious festival, makes this such a rewarding experience. I’m so proud of this film and the people that were part of it.”

Miranda says it’s a “dream come true” to premiere at Sundance.

Top End Wedding tells the story of successful Sydney lawyer Lauren (Miranda) and her fiancée Ned, played by Bohemian Rhapsody star Gwilym Lee.

The couple have just ten days to find Lauren’s mother, who has gone AWOL somewhere in the Northern Territory, and reunite her parents to pull of their dream wedding.
