We need to talk about the Wentworth finale

Warning: MAJOR spoilers ahead!

Ah, Wentworth. This show gets us every single time!

We always knew that the end to this season was going to be epic, but it’s going to take us a long time to recover from what we saw during last night’s finale.

Of course, in the season four finale, we watched our beloved Bea Smith (Danielle Cormack) meet a bloody end at the hands of Joan “The Freak” Ferguson (Pamela Rabe).

While revenge has been a key theme throughout season five, last night’s finale was all about justice for Bea (not that we actually knew it at the time!) – and justice has certainly been served.

Pamela Rabe as Joan “The Freak” Ferguson.

In the final moments of the episode, we saw The Freak buried alive with a drawing of Bea stuck to the top of her coffin.

What we didn’t see however, was whether The Freak actually died. The chances of survival are about as slim as they get, so who knows, perhaps she’ll make a miraculous escape. Though not likely, we’d put nothing past Ferguson…

Her character’s demise came as no surprise to Pamela Rabe.

“If you put the former governor of a prison in among the prisoners she formerly terrorised, everyone is going to want to take pot shots at her,” the 58-year-old tells TV WEEK. “She’s a walking bull’s-eye and knows it.”

Pamela loved the challenge of bringing to life one of TV’s most evil villains to life.

“I relish the opportunity to take her on. It’s such a gift, blessing and a joy to be let loose on a character like this,” she says.

Despite her character being responsible for the death of Bea Smith, Pamela has only felt love and support from Wentworth fans.

“Nobody has come up to me in the street and hit me!” the actress says with a laugh.

“I love the investment of the fans in the show, and their affection for the character. It may be something to do with the fact I play a scary character, but people are respectful and wary.”

Foxtel have confirmed that Wentworth would be returning for a sixth season. The big question is, will Pamela be back? At this stage, your guess is as good as ours.
