Seven Year Switch recap: it’s holiday time!

Nothing like a band-aid holiday to get rocky relationships back on track...
Trace Seven Year Switch

Welcome to episode four and congratulations for making it this far, I’m as surprised as you are that we’re all still here. What’s in store for us tonight? Probably so more real life heartbreak disguised as light-hearted entertainment for audiences at home. Let’s get started, shall we?

It’s day four and the couples are finding a bit of a groove with each other. In fact, Trace and Sarge are finding more than a groove, they’re totally loving this experiment.

Sarge likes what Sarge sees.

While it’s all swims and smiles for Trace and Sarge, Psychologist Pete rocks up to Stacey and Johnny’s joint with yet ANOTHER hand grenade. He wants them to watch videos of themselves and identify their own problems. Sounds fun, thanks heaps Pete.

Stacey Louise watches a video of her and Sarge fighting about the fridge, again.

We are all Johnny’s facial expression.

As for the other couples…well, Mark and Felicity try to bond over a game of basketball, Mark’s favourite sport.

“RAINDROPS!”

After smoking Felicity at a bit of street ball, the pair then discuss Michael’s anger. Mark totally gets it, he hates people who get angry. Or Happy. Or Sad. Or feel things at all. It’s as close to a touching moment as these two have had.

It’s now Sarge and Trace’s turn to see themselves on instant (and regrettable) replay. Sarge watches intently as he yells at Stacey about the dishes and – who would’ve thought – the fridge! Sarge isn’t really moved by the video, maintaining he was right. Take THAT logic.

Up next, Mark and Felicity see their videos. Felicity finds it pretty tough going and storms out, leaving Mark to make small talk with Jo.

Hey, I’m Mark, wanna play basketball?

The video seems to be a breakthrough for Felicity. As for Mark, he gets to watch himself belittling Kaitlyn and then he cops a grilling from Jo.

Why is always trying to deflect? Why do you have your guard up? Mark is sweating.

I am uncomfortable.

Jo then swings by Kaitlyn and Michael’s joint to do the video thing. Michael watches in horror as he blows up over nothing and tells the mother of his children to ‘piss off.’

Netflix and NO CHILL.

Turning our attention to Sarge and Trace, Sarge is concerned that Johnny may hit on Stacey Louise. Trace tries to talk him own from the ledge by saying, “Yes they’ll flirt, but that’s it, everyone flirts.” This doesn’t fly well with Sarge and he cracks it big time.

Stacey Louise is similarly angry when Johnny suggests their partners are probably having more fun than they are. This is over a game of pick up sticks so it’s not really THAT hard to imagine that anyone else is having more fun. At least play scrabble.

ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED?

I think if we’re all being honest this show needs a little spicing up so it’s welcome news that ALL the couples are being sent away to a “sentimental location.”

Michael and Kaitlyn are off to Kakadu while Felicity and Mark are being sent to Thailand! Not exactly a fair comparison, but remember Felicity has to go with Mark so…

Trace and Sarge are off camping in the Blue Mountains – boo! That is such a Sarge holiday, imagine how many activities are already locked in. Johnny and Stacey Louise are heading to the Whitsundays, but Stacey isn’t excited because “it’s not really somewhere she wants to go.”

Yeah, you’re right Stacey Louise, what a dump.

Johnny is pumped for the trip and annoyed that Stacey Louise is blowing his free holiday buzz.

Don’t worry Johnny, it’s going to be The Whit-FUNDAYS for you!

Felicity and Mark arrived in Phuket and the hotel looks baller. Mark tells us it is the “Hyatt Regency Resort in Phuket” because he is contractually obliged to do so. We also get a nice lingering shot of the sign out front. Tick.

That’s where the pleasantries run out though as Felicity has a meltdown when she realises she’ll have to share a bed with Mark in the hotel room. She storms out, calling it total BS and declaring she’s going home. Mark is left in the room with a backpack on, it’s the kind of heartbreaking image that will haunt me forever. I want to cry with Mark.

Can I still stay on the holiday?

Credits roll and so too do Mark’s tears presumably. See you next time!
