After leaving Sunrise in March 2021, Samantha Armytage is now ready to take on a new hosting role, as Seven announce that she will be the “front” of The Farmer Wants a Wife in 2023.

Sam has previously been involved in the show, featuring as a ‘special guest advisor’ in 2022.

Filming of the hit reality show’s 13th season has already wrapped, in which saw Sam take over the hosting role from Natalie Gruzlewski – who has hosted 11 of the show’s 12 seasons since its premiere in 2007.

But Natalie will still continue to be apart of the show, as Brook Hall, who is the Director of Scheduling at Channel Seven told TV Tonight, “They’re both in the show still. (Previously) Nat was front and centre and Sam was advising on dates.”

Explaining how the new roles will work, Hall admitted that it’s pretty much a straight swap of Armytage’s role with Gruzlewski’s role, “They’ve kind of slightly flipped. Nat has Nat’s Getaway so she’ll be co-host, she’ll be opening the start.

“It’s more blended, with one front and one appearing. But yes, Samantha Armytage is taking more centre stage.”

Natalie Gruzlewski was a long-standing host of the show, having held the role for 11 seasons.

This is the first full-time hosting role Sam has had at the Seven Network since stepping down from Sunrise in early 2021.

When she departed Sunrise, the network confirmed that she will not be leaving Channel Seven altogether, with a statement saying: “She will remain a valued part of the network, with new projects to be announced at a later stage.”

Speaking to TV WEEK in September last year about her then-new role with Farmer Wants A Wife, Sam explained why working with farmers to find true love is a better fit for her, saying that for two decades, when she appeared on TV all glammed up she was wishing “every day” that she was in jeans and gumboots on a farm somewhere.

“But I used to pull on my jeans and gumboots on the weekends and get stuck into my garden,” she told TV WEEK.

“It’s very important for my happiness to get my hands into the dirt.”
