It’s been 20 years since we first met the formidable women of Drover’s Run, but the stories and characters of McLeod’s Daughters still hold a special place in our hearts.

The TV WEEK Logie Award winning drama first aired in August 2001, introducing viewers to sister duo Claire (Lisa Chappell) and Tess (Bridie Carter).

Fans eagerly watched on as the half-sisters found love with the farmer brothers next door, Alex (Aaron Jeffery) and Nick Ryan (Myles Pollard).

A harrowing car crash, several devastating deaths, numerous weddings and a few cast changes later, the series wrapped up after eight seasons in 2009.

Celebrating the enduring legacy of McLeod’s Daughters, Bridie has taken to Instagram to mark the milestone 20th anniversary of the show’s premiere.

The 50-year-old actress, who more recently starred on Home and Away, shared a series of behind-the-scenes snaps and throwback photos alongside a heartfelt caption.

“20 years ago today, we shared with the world for the very first time, a story we were all privileged to be a part of telling. Wow,” the actress writes.

“Thank you for coming on the ride. It was phenomenal, life-changing, precious. It is still phenomenal, life-changing, precious,” she says, alluding to the upcoming McLeod’s Daughters project she’s working on with the original creator and cast.

After years of speculation and on-again-off-again rumours of a reboot, the show’s writer and producer, Posie Graeme Evans, confirmed a McLeod’s Daughters movie was in the works last year.

The movie is set to take fans on a journey to the past, featuring Claire and Tess’s 1850s ancestors, Henrietta “Henri” McLeod and her husband.

According to Posie, her draft script is an origin story that will influence the present-day story – where we will meet the grown-up children of the McLeod sisters.

We’ll meet Claire’s daughter Charlotte (aka BOM, short for Baby of McLeod), Nick and Tess’ daughter Ruth, and Stevie and Alex’s son Xander.

“Of course, everybody wants to meet the children,” Posie has told TV WEEK of the movie.

“Everyone knows BOM. BOM’s all grown up. BOM’s 21. We’re going to meet BOM.”

Fans loved the romantic story of Tess and Nick.

Meanwhile, stars including Myles Pollard (who played Tess’ husband Nick) and Bridie have also voiced their interest in reprising their roles.

“I really feel like we have this incredible gift that will last forever,” Bridie previously told TV WEEK of the film.

“And we are then wrapping it up and handing it over to the fans. There is nothing better than that; they’re our family.”

While we excitedly await more news on the upcoming film project, we’re happy to know that the love for Drover’s Run lives on with the cast.
