As the respective future Queens of the UK and Denmark, Catherine, Princess of Wales and Crown Princess Mary have more than just their royal titles in common.

Both princesses grew up in the country – Catherine in the English countryside and Mary in picturesque Tasmania, Australia – and were just normal young women before meeting their princes and joining two of the most recognisable royal families in the world.

So it would be understandable for these two to be friends, bonding over the responsibilities and duties they now have, and the far cry they are from their modest childhoods.

Catherine and Mary first met when the then-Duke and Duchess of Cambridge visited Denmark in 2011, and have appeared to keep up friendly relations since.

The future-Queens are also aligned in their values, as both the Princess of Wales and Crown Princess have established foundations to improve the lives of vulnerable women and children.

This shared passion is what may have led Catherine to visit Denmark again, this time solo, in February 2022, where she joined Crown Princess Mary in visiting a centre that helps support women and children exposed to domestic violence – a centre which is supported by The Mary Foundation.

And whilst it may be accidental, many Royal watchers can’t help but notice that the two princesses also have a very similar style, to the point in which the late Karl Lagerfeld, who was the creative director of Chanel, reportedly dubbed them the “Royal Sisters” due to their akin fashion sense.

But as you would expect from Catherine, the Princess of Wales has many friends, and has managed to build up friendly relations with other European royals since she officially joined the British Royal Family in April 2011 when she wed Prince William.

Whilst Crown Princess Victoria was born into royalty, she is clearly down to earth like Kate, as the heir to the Swedish throne married a personal trainer, Prince Daniel, and the couple were among the royal guests at William and Catherine’s 2011 wedding.

Catherine was able to spend more time with Victoria as the future King and Queen of Britain undertook a royal tour of Sweden and Norway in 2018.

Attending a number of engagements together on the tour, these two mothers who have children of similar ages, appeared to get along very well.

King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima of the Netherlands have spent time with the Prince and Princess of Wales on a number of occasions over the years, allowing Catherine to build a rapport with the Netherlands queen.

Their first engagement together took place in 2015, and they were acquainted once again in 2018 for a a state banquet held in honour of the Dutch king and queen. By the time of their third joint engagement in 2019, Kate and Maxima had obviously became quite familiar with each other as they were spotted chatting animatedly and laughing together.
