Meghan Markle became “obsessed” with trying to convince the royal family to quash rumours she made Kate Middleton cry at a bridesmaids dress fitting, according to a bombshell new book.

In his book Courtiers: The Hidden Power Behind The Crown, royal expert Valentine Low claims palace aides were strongly against speaking publicly on the issue.

In Meghan and Prince Harry’s bombshell Oprah interview, the Duchess of Sussex set the record straight on rumours she made her sister-in-law Kate cry in the leadup to her wedding to Harry.

During a 2021 Oprah interview, Meghan said it was actually Kate who made her cry.

During the interview, Meghan said it was “the reverse” that had happened: that it was actually Kate who made her cry during the dress fitting.

“A few days before the wedding, she was upset about something pertaining to … flower girl dresses. And it made me cry,” Meghan said in the March 2021 interview.

“And it really hurt my feelings, and I thought in the context of everything else that was going on in those days leading to the wedding, it didn’t make sense to not be just doing whatever everyone else is doing, which was trying to be supportive knowing what was going on with my dad and whatnot.”

In his upcoming book, Low wrote: “The truth is that, after the dress fitting, Meghan had become obsessed with trying to persuade the palace press office to put something out denying the story.

“However, they were equally adamant that it would be a serious mistake to start briefing about personal stories relating to differences between members of the royal family.”

Low claims the palace feared speaking on the issue “would create a precedent, making it harder in future for them to avoid commenting on personal tittle-tattle.”

“It would also fan the flames of the story, ensuring it continued to fill the pages of the newspapers for several days to come. This became a major point of contention between Meghan and her media advisers,” Low wrote in his book.

When touching on the incident with Kate during her wide-ranging interview with Oprah, Meghan said she didn’t want “to be disparaging to anyone,” but simply wanted to clear the air.

“It was a really hard week of the wedding, and she was upset about something. But she owned it, and she apologised, and she brought me flowers and a note apologising,” Meghan said of the Princess of Wales.

“She did what I would do if I knew that I hurt someone, to just take accountability for it.”
