It’s been eight months since The Morning Show star Kylie Gillies tearfully waved goodbye to her oldest son, as he embarked on a new life chapter more than 16,000km away from his home in Australia.
Gus, now 24, left his family behind to start his “dream job” in the German city of Berlin, and it meant a big change for his loving mum.
“We’ve been wobbly these last few days after squeezing him tightly and saying goodbye at the International Airport,” the Channel Seven star admitted in an emotional Instagram post in December 2025.
“His last weeks in Sydney were filled with fond farewells with friends, family, feline cuddles ..and Grandma. Go get ‘em Gus. We love you.”
In a September 2025 interview with TV Week, the star told how Gus had already spent 18 months in Europe and was heading back because his career path in film and commercial production had “taken off”.
Now, Kylie has shed more tears, after she, husband Tony and younger son Archie, 22 – who is also “finding his own way in the world” – were reunited with Gus in his new home.
“The Gillies gang is back together ❤️,” Kylie shared in an emotional post on August 24, telling her 159,000 Instagram followers, “We’ve joined Gus in Berlin. We’re so happy.”
The presenter went on to share photos showing her and her boy having their “first hug since last December”.
“Gilles reunion tour is underway,” she captioned another snap of her and her boys together.
Now, an insider tells Woman’s Day just how hard the change has been for Kylie – who holds a special place in the hearts of Australians after almost two decades presenting The Morning Show alongside co-host Larry Emdur.
“It was a strange adjustment for Kylie when the boys first left home. The house suddenly felt very different without the noise, laughter, and chaos,” the source says.
“Kylie has always been so open about how bittersweet it is watching her boys grow up and become independent.
“Of course she misses them terribly, but there’s also an enormous sense of pride watching them out there making their own lives.”
With the star and her boys now reunited – albeit temporarily – the insider says “there’s nothing quite like it”.
“After all the FaceTimes and messages, being able to hug them again meant the world to Kylie,” they continue.
“She was a blubbering mess and cried for a good hour. She couldn’t stop cuddling them and staring at them.”
The Channel Seven star is said to be “embracing every minute” of this special time.
“It’s about making memories while they’re all in the same place,” the insider says, adding that Europe makes a “wonderful backdrop” for such an occasion.
“Kylie is absolutely loving being able to share these experiences with her boys. She’s looking forward to all the laughter, good food and quality family time,” they add.
“Kylie will be very conscious of making the most of this time because she knows how quickly it passes.”
Indeed, Kylie has previously admitted to “secretly crying” about the fact her boys are leaving home.
“It’s both exciting and scary – and I’m happy and sad all at once,” she told TV Week.
“You know what? That’s actually what motherhood’s about. Feeling 87 emotions all at once.”
