After weeks of speculation, television giant NBC has finally confirmed that the iconic TV sitcom will return with a whopping ten new episodes.

The bigger than big news was announced at the Television Critics Association’s winter press tour in Pasadena, California, on Wednesday, January 18.

And you’ll be pleased to know that the revival will feature all the characters that you came to know and love when the TV comedy ruled screens everywhere for eight seasons from 1998 to 2006.

The Emmy-winning sitcom’s creators, Max Mutchnick and David Kohan will take the reins along with director James Burrows.

As for the shows protagonists, Eric McCormack (Will), Debra Messing (Grace), Sean Hayes (Jack) and Megan Mullally (Karen) are all set to return.

The series is considered as one of the most successful shows ever to feature an LGBTQ character in a lead role.

“We’re thrilled that one of the smartest, funniest, and most defining comedies in NBC history is coming back,” said NBC Entertainment Chairman Robert Greenblatt.

He continued, “This groundbreaking series for everything from gay rights to social and political commentary — all disguised as a high-speed train of witty pop culture — is coming back where it belongs.”

President of NBC Entertainment Jennifer Salke added, “The fact that all four of the original stars were excited about getting back into production is a testament to the joyful experience they had doing nearly 200 episodes for eight seasons. Few things cut through the clutter these days, especially in comedy, and Will and Grace is one of the best.”

The show focused on the trials and tribulations of Grace Adler and her gay best friend Will Truman.

Following the exciting announcement, the show’s stars took to Twitter to celebrate.

Debra, perhaps most widely known for her biting portrayal of Grace Adler, tweeted, “IT’S OFFICIAL !!! THE GANG IS GETTING BACK TOGETHER on @NBC!!”

Meanwhile, Eric wrote, “Okay, NOW it’s official!”

And Sean joked, “Hey…can I carpool with one of you guys to work? @DebraMessing @EricMcCormack @MeganOMullally #WillAndGrace.”

Will and Grace centered on the friendship between Grace, a successful interior designer, and her gay best friend Will, a lawyer.

When the show wrapped up in 2006, Will and Grace suffered a years-long falling out until they serendipitously crossed paths again while helping their children move into their college dorms. Funnily enough, their kids eventually get married.

It remains unclear where the reboot will pick up – will they pick up where they left off or simply ignore the events of the season finale as they did for a special presidential election short that was filmed in 2016?

A premiere date has not yet been announced for the much-loved TV show, but it is believed the comedy will make its comeback sometime during the 2017–18 TV season.
