Seven Year Switch’s Michelle: My battle with postnatal depression

Seven Year Switch star Michelle has told of her battle with postnatal depression, explaining it contributed to the collapse of her relationship with Jason.

The pair ended their relationship on Monday’s reunion episode after giving the show a crack when it was revealed they hadn’t had sex for 17 months.

“I was drowning in my need to be the best mother ever,” she told mamamia.

“My relationship with Jason was under massive strain, I had changed.”

“I wasn’t myself and I couldn’t even bare to have sex, even if I wasn’t so tired, I just couldn’t.”

On the reunion episode, she confessed they both tried to “put all the things we learned [from the show] into practise” but they decided to end their engagement.

“It got to the stage where we looked at each other and we couldn’t try anymore. We were just suffering each other’s pressure.”

After 12 months of “feeling like a terrible mother and partner,” she visited her doctor who diagnosed with Post Natal Depression.

“This was a real shock to me; I thought PND was when you don’t connect with your baby. But in reality, there is so much more.”

She began seeing a psychiatrist and slowly, things with Jason seemed to get back on track.

However, after the birth of their second child, a combination of post-birth complications and money problems, she felt the grasp of PND creeping up again.

“So, the girl you see on Seven Year Switch is me at my worst, my darkest. It’s a woman losing her battle with PND. It’s a woman who is lost and feeling alone. It’s a woman that some days just wanted to run away.”
