“Anything is possible. If it’s the right project, he’ll do it,” an insider told the publication – noting Depp’s prior comments stating that he felt “betrayed” by the iconic production company.

The latest news comes over a month after The New York Times reported that Disney were “seemingly inching the door open” on a potential future collaboration with the actor.

While neither source confirmed whether Depp would be returning specifically for the Pirates of the Caribbean, fans of the franchise have been quick to attribute the speculation to his reprisal of one of his most beloved characters.

Rumours regarding Depp’s return to Disney first began to circulate in June 2022, following a report by Poptopic that claimed the 60-year-old had been offered a $300 million USD contract offer by Disney to reprise his role.

The timing of the speculation also coincided with Depp’s high-profile defamation case against his ex-wife Amber Heard, with a representative for Depp telling People Magazine that any claims related to his return were “false.”

Although Depp’s reprisal of Captain Jack Sparrow is largely speculative at this point, there is a glimmer of hope for fans of the franchise, with Pirates of the Caribbean producer Jerry Bruckheimer telling The Times that work had begun on “two Pirates scripts – one with Margot Robbie, one without.”

Commenting on Depp’s return, Bruckheimer told the publication his comeback to the world of Pirates would not be officially on the cards “at this point” however, the producer stated that “the future is yet to be decided,” leaving many Jack Sparrow fans tentatively optimistic of the eccentric sailors return to the big screen.

“I absolutely believe post [defamation case] verdict that Pirates is primed for rebooting Johnny as Capt. Jack back on board,” a former Disney executive told People Magazine, adding “there is just too much potential box-office treasure for a beloved character deeply embedded in the Disney culture.”
