Aussie star Isla Fisher and husband Sacha Baron Cohen donate $1 million to Syrian refugees

The donation could “save thousands of lives,” Save The Children CEO Justin Forsynth said.

Australian star Isla Fisher and her actor husband, Sacha Baron Cohen have donated $1 million dollars to help Syrian children and refugees.

Cohen, 44 and Fisher, 39, designated $500 000 of the donations to Save the Children U.K to pay for measles vaccinations for children in northern Syria.

And the other half has been donated to the International Rescue Committee to help refugees fleeing from war in Syria and neighbouring countries, with health care, sanitation, and shelter – specifically for women and children.

Justin Forsyth, chief executive of Save the Children, said the money would “save many thousands of lives and protect some of the most vulnerable children”.

“By allowing us to make their generous donation to Syrian children public, Sacha and Isla are helping highlight the tragedy of the issue today,” he added.

David Miliband, the ex-British foreign secretary who is president of the IRC, called their gift a “great expression of humanity.”
