Margot Robbie has been nominated for an Academy Award for best actress for her much-hyped role as controversial ice skating identity Tonya Harding in I, Tonya.

It’s the first of such nominations for the Queensland-born actress, arriving just five years after her breakout role in Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street (2013).

The 27-year-old actress is yet to comment on the happy news, but a slew of images and videos shared on social media (below) prove the blonde beauty has simply been too busy celebrating to formally acknowledge the nod — and we can’t blame her!

But she’s not the only homegrown talent to receive a look-in!

Australian editor Lee Smith has picked up a nomination for his work on World War II epic Dunkirk and Australian filmmakers Derin Seale and Josh Lawson have also been nominated for their live-action short film, The Eleven O’Clock.

Elsewhere, Mexican director Guillermo del Toro’s monster romance The Shape of Water emerged from the pack as this year’s clear front runner. The film scored a whopping 13 nominations, falling just short of tying for the record of 14 nominations shared by All About Eve, Titanic and La La Land.

What’s more, the fallout from Hollywood’s sexual harassment scandal appears to have been felt in this year’s nominations.

Greta Gerwig became the fifth woman ever nominated for best director for her semi-autobiographical coming-of-age story Lady Bird, while Rachel Morrison made history with the first nomination ever (!!) for a female cinematographer for Mudbound.

It seems women can direct and film movies too — shocking!

Will Margot’s portrayal of Tonya Harding (L) land her an Oscar?

There were also a few nominations that felt like direct responses to the #MeToo and #TimesUp movements.

James Franco, who is facing allegations of sexually inappropriate and exploitative behavior, was noticeably absent from this year’s lineup. Meanwhile, Christopher Plummer scored a nomination for best supporting actor after replacing Kevin Spacey in All The Money In The World at the last minute.

The 90th annual Academy Awards will be held on March 4.
