Private jets, oversized dressing rooms, entourages and outrageous food and drink demands were all required in order for “King” Kyle Sandilands to join Australian Idol, a source spills to Woman’s Day.

The spy reveals that the 51-year-old KIIS FM shock jock’s rider rivals that of songstress Mariah Carey’s – who once famously demanded her dressing room be filled with 100 doves and 20 kittens.

How are his co-hosts handling it?

“He flew around the country in a $4 million private plane with an entourage to audition contestants and his dressing room – which was bigger than the other judges’ dressing rooms – was to be fully stocked with everything he wanted,” they divulge, adding that the staff were “warned about his legendary temper and tantrums” if his demands weren’t met.

Talking to the media recently, Kyle confirmed his private jet demands and admitted to leaving his co-judges, crooner Harry Connick Jr, 55, US popstar Meghan Trainor, 29, and Aussie indie singer Amy Shark, 36, in his dust.

“I get the private jet and the others are all lining up on Jetstar, waiting for their apple and their tangerine cake or whatever it is they’re handing out on those things,” he laughed.

BARKING ORDERS

Kyle, who was on the original Ten series from 2005 to 2008, divulged he had a lolly bowl on the show filled only with orange snakes, with a staffer removing all the other snakes from about 20 packets to get the ones he wanted.

In 2002, while starring in Celebrity Big Brother, he demanded KFC be delivered to the house, threatening Big Brother that he would ruin the show if they didn’t meet his request.

Kyle also demands that he only be photographed from one angle because he hates his body shape.

“I’ve told you, don’t film me from the side where you can see my fat gut,” he famously barked at one staffer.

His outrageous demands have even shocked his longtime radio co-host Jackie O, 47, who has called it “Mariah Carey-elevated diva behaviour”.

ON-SET DRAMA

While Kyle may get away with his outlandish antics on his radio show, Woman’s Day has learned that his co-star Harry wasn’t so accepting.

“It fast became obvious they were polar opposites in so many ways,” the on-set spy says, adding that Harry, who’s been in the industry for decades and has built a reputation of being down-to-earth, was said to be “taken aback” by Kyle’s bratty behaviour, which resulted in sparring words between the pair.

The insider adds that while producers were pleased at first with their terse banter on camera, things became so prickly between the pair that Harry “put his foot down on more than one occasion”.

“Harry also didn’t like that Kyle was making derogatory comments about one of the young performers,” says the spy.

In the end, producers decided it was best to keep them apart during filming breaks.
