Iconic summer ice block of our youth GONE

It’s been confirmed – SunnyBoys are no more!

Growing up, there was a strict hierarchy of iced treat consumption. Basically it went like this: little kids had fruit-based ice blocks and adults had delicious and decadent ice creams.

And that was just on weekends, unless it was going to be a really hot day at school, and the bigger little kids(post Year 4) were given a few extra cents, and a paper napkin, to buy a SunnyBoy from the school canteen at lunch.

I still remember the excitement at the introduction of the raspberry SunnyBoy, called the Razz – it was huge news in the school quadrangle.

Sot it is with great sadness to read this triangular icy treat is no more – and that its demise was ushered in silently last month. No fanfare. No memorial. No ceremonies.

Makers of the SunnyBoy, the Daily Juice Co, has now officially announced the end of the ice block’s production saying: “… we have regrettably had to make the hard decision to stop production of the icy treat, SunnyBoy, as of August 2016. Unfortunately, SunnyBoy has experienced a sustained reduction in consumer demand over a long period of time making it necessary to delete the product from our range of water ice treats.

“No other products are affected by this deletion and consumers will still be able to purchase all our other popular brands …”

Twitter has gone into deep mourning.

The family charter on who gets to have which icy treat at what age is now being totally overhauled.
