Better yet, it looks like the two women are on the same wave length when it comes to fashion – Meghan has sported many a look reminiscent of her late mother-in-law.

It’s comforting to know Diana would have loved seeing her youngest son’s wife take inspiration from her fashion sense.

In honour of what would have been Princess Diana’s 58th birthday, we round up 16 moments she and her daughter-in-law twinned, and looked mighty good while doing so.

Red and purple

During her first royal engagement with Prince Harry of 2019, pregnant Duchess Meghan channelled her mother-in-law in bright red and purple hues.

Princess Diana wore the same colours in Thailand in 1988 and when she made her famous solo trip to India’s Taj Mahal in 1992.

In another touching moment from her royal tour of Australia, Meghan paid tribute to Diana in the sweetest way by wearing butterfly earrings that once belonged to Diana as she attended various engagements around Sydney.

The Princess wore the same earrings while she was on her 1986 tour of Canada with Prince Charles. How fitting!

During her and husband Prince Harry’s royal tour of Australia, New Zealand, Fiji and Tonga, the Duchess of Sussex stepped out in Queensland’s Fraser Island in this Reformation striped flowing dress, featuring sheer fabric.

Fans were quick to compare the style to one that Princess Diana wore before her 1981 wedding to Prince Charles. The 19-year-old Princess to-be, who was working in childcare at the time, made global news when she was snapped in a Laura Ashley skirt which became transparent in the sun.

Meghan has quickly proved pale pink is one of her colours of choice, but Lady Di was first to the mark. We can’t blame either of them, they pull it off seamlessly.
