King Charles leaves hospital smiling after undergoing treatment for enlarged prostate

Buckingham Palace has confirmed that King Charles III has returned home following treatment for an enlarged prostate.

The King was all smiles as he was seen leaving the London Clinic where he spent three days following His Majesty’s procedure.

King Charles’ condition was first confirmed by a statement from Buckingham Palace.

“In common with thousands of men each year, the king has sought treatment for an enlarged prostate,” the palace statement read.

“His Majesty’s condition is benign and he will attend hospital next week for a corrective procedure. The king’s public engagements will be postponed for a short period of recuperation.”

Camilla has since gone to visit him, post-surgery, and while leaving she told the assembled media that Charles was ‘fine’.

In an earlier statement from the palace, they thanked the public for their ‘good wishes’ and expressed gratitude for the awareness generated regarding prostate checks due to the diagnosis.

According to Penn Medicine, an enlarged prostate – meaning the gland has grown – happens to a majority of men as they get older and does not increase the risk of prostate cancer.

The British Monarch was crowned in late 2023 at the age of 74 following the passing of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II.

Over the past few years, it is believed the now-King has been in good health aside from a non-cancerous growth removed from his face in 2008, according to The Associate Press.

King Charles is not the only member of the British royal family undergoing a medical procedure as it was announced – mere hours apart – that Catherine, the Princess of Wales was currently recovering from abdominal surgery.

“Her Royal Highness The Princess of Wales was admitted to the London Clinic yesterday for planned abdominal surgery,” a statement from Kensington Palace read.

“The surgery was successful and it is expected that she will remain in hospital for ten to fourteen days, before returning home to continue her recovery. Based on the current medical advice, she is unlikely to return to public duties until after Easter.”

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have reportedly sent their best wishes and messages of support to both King Charles and Princess Catherine following their respective health scares.

According to HELLO!, reports have alleged that the couple contacted “the King and the Princess of Wales” to share their family’s support, adding that they wanted “to pass on their concern and best wishes”.
