Palaces and tiaras aside, there’s no denying it would be a tough gig to be a royal.

Not only is it their job to stay cool, calm and collected in front of millions of people on a daily basis, but you also have to look cool, calm and collected – both on and off-duty.

That’s why it’s always interesting to know which royal racks up the most official gigs each year.

The royals attend thousands of engagements in total each year.

If you’ve been a royal fan for a while, you’ll be familiar with the fact that Princess Anne is a splendid example of what it is to be a working royal, consistently being in official attendance at what works out to more than one event a day.

Every year, an avid royal watcher by the name of Tim O’Donovan countsall of the royal family member’s engagements from the listings in the Court Circular. He then submits his findings to The Times.

The list is always an intriguing insight into the magnitude of effort the royals put in each year – and we often see the Princess Royal at the top of the list, with her count of royal engagements in the hundreds.

However, this year there’s a new top dog on the royal block.

Princess Anne has finally been surpassed as the year’s hardest working royal.

You guessed it, Prince Charles topped 2019’s list this year, with an impressive 521 engagements listed under his name.

Little sister Anne wasn’t far behind though, with a total of 506 engagements to her own name.

As for the rest of the family, 93-year-old Queen Elizabeth proved age is nothing but a number, managing a total of 295 engagements in 2019.

The younger royals weren’t far behind. Prince William racked up 220 events while his wife Duchess Catherine pulled off 126 (all while raising three young children!)

As for the Sussexes, Prince Harry took the bulk of the work as his wife, Duchess Meghan carried out her maternity leave after giving birth to their first son Archie.

The doting new dad had 201 engagements, while Meghan attended 83 over the year.

With this many engagements alone, not to mention the royal weddings, babies and travelling in between, it would be safe to say 2019 has been very busy for the House of Windsor.
