At the tail end of 2019, Abbey Way (nee Gelmi) was enjoying her most successful year yet – both professionally and personally.

The 29-year-old had barely caught her breath after being announced as the new co-host of House Rules alongside Jamie Durie before she was walking down the aisle to wed her long-time beau, Ben Way.

In front of 140 family and friends, including stars such as Neighbours‘ Rob Mills and Home and Away’s Sam Frost, Abbey tied the knot at Lot 100 in the Adelaide Hills, South Australia.

“Walking down the aisle and seeing [Ben] at the end waiting for me was just something I’ll never forget,” Abbey told The Advertiser at the time.

The beaming bride wore a gorgeous Pallas Couture gown and added to the look with a bouquet of simple white roses and a single tier veil as well as opting for a pair of Christian Louboutin heels.

Channel Seven presenter Matt Doran acted as MC while Australian Survivor alum Jarrad Seng was the couple’s photographer.

However, if Abbey was hoping to lap up the newlywed bliss with Ben, she had another thing coming.

Speaking to TV WEEK last month, the former sports presenter revealed that her new reality TV gig made things tricky in terms of timing as it wasn’t originally factored in.

“When we were planning the wedding, I didn’t know I’d be on House Rules, so we got married on Friday and I was back shooting on Monday,” Abbey said with a laugh. “So that was pretty full-on.”

Long before becoming husband and wife, Abbey and Ben met like many have before them – in the workplace.

“I had just started an internship at Fox Sports and I was newly single,” Abbey previously shared with Who.

“Ben was the anchor and I thought he was pretty cute. It all sort of went from there. We always joke that I pretty much chased him profusely which is sadly the case.”

“We started off in the workplace together which of course had its little dramatic moments but mostly it was just fun, and we knew from the beginning that it was something pretty special.”

Three years later, Ben popped the question near the beach at North Bondi in Sydney and Abbey shared the happy news on Instagram.

“A thousand times yes,” she gushed.

And as for the future? The couple are just hoping things slow down enough to enjoy some quality time together with Abbey joking to TV WEEK in March, “I keep promising my husband we’ll go on our honeymoon soon!”

After almost four years together, Ben got down on one knee in North Bondi to ask for Abbey’s hand in marriage.
