Sunday night’s episode of Farmer Wants A Wife ended in tragedy, as Farmer Sam quit the show for good after receiving some heartbreaking family news, as well as being rejected by his clear favourite contestant.
The 28-year-old tropical fruit farmer from Queensland found himself in an unprecedented predicament, as he failed to develop a reciprocal romantic connection with this three chosen women – Emily, Sophie and Riley.
While Sam was besotted with Emily and Sophie, he and Riley agreed they didn’t share a spark and were better off as just friends.
But shockingly, both Emily and Sophie had to confront Sam and admit they too had failed to fall in love with the family-orientated Italian.
That brutal blow, combined with the tragic news that his grandfather had died from a sudden heart attack, led to Sam quitting the show, sending all three girls home early.
When Sam first informed the girls of his grandfather’s death, he said he intended to continue on the show, despite the news.
“Even though that just happened, I just want to let you know that I still want to continue this, because my grandfather would have wanted me to do this,” Sam said.
“I came here to look for somebody to do it. It’s easier to quit, but it’s harder to keep going. But when you keep going, it’s more rewarding at the end.”
Sam was left heartbroken by the news.

Emily broke down as she admitted to Sam that she wasn’t in love with him.
(Image: Channel Seven)But Sam was dealt another blow when Emily, who the farmer had previously declared his love for, revealed she did not feel the same way.
“I wish that it wasn’t the case, but you told me that you’d fallen in love with me and I haven’t fallen for you,” she said.
“I’m sorry, I feel sick and I’ve been thinking about this for days. There’s nothing I can say. I could never have imagined in a million years that I would be hurting you, but I think I should go home and I’d like to go home,” she said.
Sam told Emily he was “shocked and stunned” by the news.
“I don’t even know what to say. The world’s just crashing down,” he said.
“I literally thought you were quite perfect and then you gave me this bombshell today and you broke my heart into pieces. But that’s life, you can’t always get what you want.”
Sam informs Emily, Sophie and Riley of his decision to quit the show.
(Image: Channel Seven)Later on, Sam gathered Sophie, Emily and Riley together to announce he had changed his mind and would be quitting the show.
“I know that we all came here to find love and I thought that I could get through this, but I can’t,” Sam said.
“Right now I need to attend to my family back at home and I’m going to call it quits. I’ve got to end this right now for myself.”
Now To Love understands Sam will rejoin the show during its finale episode, but it’s unclear if he’s since found love since filming wrapped.
Farmer Wants A Wife continues on Sundays at 7pm and Mondays at 7.30pm on Seven.
