Viral children’s song, ‘Baby Shark’ wasn’t always so innocent

If there’s a toddler in your life, there’s every chance that you’re familiar with the now viral sensation Baby Shark.

The song’s origins go all the way back to a 1900s children’s rhyme, but it’s the recent version by South Korean kids’ entertainment company, Pinkfong that has infiltrated the hearts and minds of youngsters all over the world.

It wasn’t always so sweet

While the lyrics now might seem quite inoffensive, according to the Irish Times, they were once slightly more sinister. Apparently an English translation of an earlier version of the song ends with the singer first losing an arm to the shark … then dying!

Racking up more than 1.6 billion views since it was first released in November 2015, the repetitive ditty has sparked it’s own challenge, inspired by the ‘In my feelings’ challenge where seemingly normal folks dance outside their moving vehicles to Drake’s hit song.
