Woman marries man who saved her life

The inspiring young woman is set to wed the man who stood by her through the traumatic ordeal.
Melissa Dohme to marry Cameron Hill, man who saved her life

Melissa Dohme was viciously attacked by her ex-boyfriend Robert Burton and left for dead. The 20-year-old was stabbed 32 times by her attacker and was uncontrollably bleeding when emergency services found her lying in the street.

One of these first-responders, Cameron Hill, would become Melissa’s husband in a true fairy tale ending to a vicious domestic violence case.

Melissa had broken up with her then-boyfriend in October 2011 after he punched her when they had an argument. Fast-forward to early 2012 and Melissa says she was still being harassed on the phone by Burton, who repeatedly called her in the middle of the night asking her to come over and give him a hug. The outgoing and bubbly blonde gave in to his pleas and after she arrived at his house and gave him a hug, he began violently stabbing her with a pocket knife and then, according to Police, grabbed a bigger knife to stab her with.

Burton was charged with the attack and sentenced to life without parole for assault.

The brave, young woman made a miraculous recovery from her injuries, which included face and neck wounds. She was able to attend college and started to speak publicly about domestic violence in the community. Nearly a year after assault Melissa met up with the group of paramedics and doctors who saved her life and, once she saw Cameron, “there was an instant connection” Melissa told the BBC. Cameron was “in awe of how far she’d come,” and asked her to dinner immediately.

Cupid had plans for the inspiring couple, and three years later Cameron proposed to Melissa on the field at a baseball game in front of her family and friends. It was the “most surprising moment of my whole life” the soon-to-be bride said of the proposal. The pair are set to wed in May this year, and we can’t imagine anything but a happy life for this pair who were clearly destined to be together.
