Villagers in India knit woolly jumpers for elephants to protect them from the cold

The rescued gentle giants were previously abused in captivity.

Women in a village neighbouring Wildlife SOS Elephant Conservation and Care Center have taken it upon themselves to knit woollen jumpers for the sweet elephants, creating the cutest photo you will see all day.

The Conservation and Care Center in Northern India rehabilitates severely abused elephants who have suffered in captivity. On the reserve, the elephants are able to live in peace and safety with proper nutrition, space to walk around and veterinary care. Not to mention stylish attire.

A cold snap left the beautiful creatures shivering through the night, but the colourful pyjamas have been a lifesaver for the elderly animals, who have “suffered so much abuse making them susceptible to ailments such as pneumonia,” Kartick Satyanarayan, co-founder and CEO of Wildlife SOS said.

The bright colours and practical design have been a success, and look chic as well! No word yet if there are any spots to volunteer with the villagers, but we are on the first flight out if there’s an opening.
