WARNING: Pauline Hanson is coming for your Easter eggs

Please, anything but the chocolate...

I’m just going to say it; Easter is the highlight of the year. It’s like your birthday, Christmas, Hannukah and Boxing Day sales all rolled into one because of one important difference… it’s a holiday that celebrates chocolate.

Not only do you not have to go to work for four days, you get to gorge yourself silly on adorable bunnies and bilbies with ~~no~~ minimal judgement.

But Pauline Hanson isn’t happy with our chocolate consumption.

Because Cadbury’s is halal certified.

It’s worth noting that you probably want your chocolate to be halal by default, unless you enjoy slaughtered animals or traces of pork lurking in your oversized chocolate egg.

But Senator Hanson is not a fan of the halal certification printed on the foil wrappers each and every one of us reads diligently before consuming our bunnies like Bruce Bogtrotter.

“We see these products that are halal certified – Cadbury chocolate for instance, halal certified,” she said.

“If you want to get products that’s not halal certified, I would suggest Lindt, that’s not halal certified.

“Another good one is Darrell Lea, again (sic), an Australian company, not halal certified.”

Some users on Facebook took umbrage with Senator Hanson trying to change which chocolate we buy despite her famous position of fighting against those trying to “change our way of life”.

Experts say Cadbury’s decision to ensure many of its products hold the halal certification, including its Easter products, increases trade exports, particularly to the Middle East and South East Asia.

“It’s a commercial decision and Australia makes a lot of money from doing that,” Raihan Ismail, an associate lecturer in the Centre for Arab and Islamic Studies at ANU told Fact Check when asked about Halal certification.
