Fat can be fit: Running magazine features curvy model

Larger ladies across the land are cheering Women’s Running magazine for putting a curvy model running on the cover.

LARGER ladies across the land are cheering Women’s Running magazine for putting a curvy model running on the cover.

The model, Erica Jean, who is often called “plus-size” said she hoped to inspire women who aren’t stick thin to get out there and exercise.

“I think that most fitness magazines are showing women that are size 2, size 4 (8 or 10 in Australian sizes) and they don’t show many women that are plus size,” she said.

Body image expert Harriet Brown, told the BBC: “The cover sends an unambiguous message that runners come in all shapes and sizes

“There’s a ton of evidence that physical activity is good for you no matter what you weigh, and whether it leads to weight loss or not – and for some people, it doesn’t. If we really care about people’s health, we’d encourage people of all body sizes to be active.”
