Family write heartbreaking letter to Karlie and Khandalyce

“Our hearts have a thousand cuts and we will remain your strength”

With news coming out yesterday that the killer or killers of Karlie Pearce Stevenson and Khandalyce had taken roughly $90 000 from a bank account of Ms Pearce Stevenson and used her phone to send messages, her family has written a touching tribute.

Her father Scott Povey and brother Luke Povey spoke of their heartbreak in the NT News classifieds.

They said, “The sun doesn’t shine as bright as it did but the night is now lit with a few more stars.”

“No more looking to see is that girl is you as we saw someone else in a crowd. No more waiting to hear. No more waiting to see you show up smiling again as usual.”

“No more laughter giggles and pranks. No more late nights just talking with the music playing.”

The family have stayed silent since detectives delivered the shocking news last week that their loved ones were part of Australia’s biggest murder investigations in years.

“You are the only one that knows, and you can tell your Mum, Nanna and Grandma when see them again,” the message read.

“Our hearts have a thousand cuts and we will remain your strength.”

“Give Khandals a hug for me and Luke sweetie. Love forever Dad and Luke.”

They added lines from the Cat Stevens song Wild World: “It’s hard to get by with just a smile girl … I’ll always remember you as a child.”

Ms Pearce Stevenson’s bones were found in the notorious Belanglo State Forest in 2010, two years after the last confirmed sighting of her and her daughter.

She was only identified this month after DNA matched her to the skeletal remains of Khandalyce, whose bones were found in July, in a suitcase more than 1000km away, near Wynarka, South Australia.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
