Dumped bride donates reception to homeless

“In some small way, I can take this horrible thing and try to turn it into something positive.”

Many people left at the altar might want the world to wallow with them in their heartache but not one bride who was jilted weeks before her wedding.

The bride-not-to-be Dana Olsen selflessly chose to donate what would have been her wedding reception to homeless families when her fiancé got cold feet and dumped her without explanation.

“If I’m going to have a really bad weekend, at least I want to help someone else have a really good day,” Ms said on January 15.

The Seattle woman organised a special event on what would have been her wedding day and invited almost 100 children and their families from local shelter Mary’s Place to treat them to a catered dinner, dancing and live band on January 16.

“My family had paid for what was supposed to be a beautiful, fun, 250-person wedding. We were out tens of thousands of nonrefundable dollars,” Ms Olsen wrote in a piece for xojane.com.

“In some small way, I can take this horrible thing and try to turn it into something positive.”

Ms Olsen says while her mother attended the event because “she worked incredibly hard to plan the never-gonna-happen wedding,” she herself couldn’t bring herself to go.

“If I were a badass, I’d have gone to the event that was supposed to be my wedding and danced my face off with a bunch of awesome women,” wrote Olsen.

“But I’m kind of a wimp, so I did the only thing I could think to do on that sad Saturday night: Xanax and chill.”
