Following a successful run at the 2018 TV WEEK Logie Awards, Wentworth has picked up an amazing six nominations at this year's show.
This year, the prison drama is nominated for Most Outstanding and Most Popular Drama Series, Most Outstanding Actor for Robbie Magasiva (Will Jackson), Most Outstanding Actress for Leah Purcell (Rita Connors, Wentworth), Most Outstanding Supporting Actor for Bernard Curry (Jake Stewart) and Most Outstanding Supporting Actress for Celia Ireland (Liz Birdsworth).
We catch up with nominees Celia, Bernard and Leah to talk all things Logies at the star-studded nominations event on Queensland's Gold Coast.
TV WEEK: In 2018, Wentworth won a bunch of awards. The entire cast and crew must be thrilled to be nominated for the same categories again this year – as well as for the individual awards.
Celia: It's extremely heartening. And to think that we're now going into our seventh season, we're all collectively grateful. We have to think about…
Leah: ...the fans. They kept the show alive. And you know, without them, we don't have a show. We're incredibly grateful for their support. It's unreal to be given the opportunity to share in great storylines that are dramatic, emotionally driven and physical, and to get out there and show ourselves off. We've loved every minute.
Your co-star Robbie Magasiva is also nominated. What was his reaction when you spoke to him?
B: We're family, so we called Robbie to congratulate him. This a huge honour for everyone involved.
C: The entire cast are all connected and you don't always find that.
Bernard: Robbie and I have great roles in a groundbreaking drama in which the protagonists of the story are women. Wentworth has really changed the game, so to be in that mix is a privilege for both of us.
The 2019 TV WEEK Logie Awards will air live from The Gold Coast in Queensland, exclusively on the Nine Network and 9Now on Sunday, June 30.
