It was a sad night for Home And Away fans as we bid farewell to star Matt Little (VJ Patterson) in Thursday’s episode.

The 25-year-old joined Summer Bay in 2014 as Leah’s (Ada Nicodemou) son and has been one of the favourites of the soap drama.

The battle for baby Luc led to his shock departure as it was revealed that rapist Mick (Kristian Schmid) was the biological father, not VJ. He and mum Leah didn’t stop fighting to keep the youngster safe, so VJ’s only option was to take the bub and escape on a sea plane.

Matt’s co-stars all wrote special messages on Instagram wishing him all the best for the future.

His on-screen mum, Ada, posted a sweet tribute, writing: “Tonight we said goodbye to this beautiful human. Matt thank you for all the laughs, thank you for being an amazing friend, and always being there for me. I miss you so much and work just isn’t the same without my little big boy there. I’m so proud of your work and your journey and I can’t wait to see what the next adventure looks like. Love you. #comebackVJ”

Scott Lee (Hunter King) posted a throwback snap of the pair at school and mentioned that infamous calculator line.

“Hunter: Do you have a spare calculator? VJ: We need a calculator? … DERP! Goodbye to this very special dude. We all miss and love you,” he captioned.

Emily Symons (Marilyn) shared a car selfie with Matt, Raechelle Banno (Olivia) and Pia Miller (Kat). “Last night we said goodbye to this beautiful soul. A true gentleman, with a brilliant sense of humour. Thanks for brightening our days. You are sorely missed,” she wrote.

Raechelle also posted a shout-out to her co-star. “Lucky last scene with the one and only @_mattlittle. So proud of Veej’s and Matt’s journey. So much love.”
