Their relationship may have gotten off to a rocky start but Mali and Rose aren’t holding back anymore. But for Rose, is it all too much?
After falling for bad guy bikie Tex (Lucas Linehan) and being manipulated by his charm, Rose has found it hard to trust anyone.
Not only was the policewoman lied to by Tex, who was laundering money through the gym and using her for intel, but she was humiliated in front of her colleagues when their relationship was later revealed in court during his trial.
However, she can’t help but be drawn to Mali (Kyle Schilling) – a hunky surfer new to the Bay – even if her line of work unsettled him at first.
Rose is attracted to Mali, but finds herself pulling away.
(IMAGE: Seven)”’Mali’s negative response to Rose being a police officer is to do with his history with cops,” Kirsty, 32, tells TV Week.
”’He tells her that where he’s from [Mantaray Point], they can’t be trusted. It created some rocky terrain for the pair, but Rose is receptive to his feeling and make him feel heard.”
After agreeing to a fresh start, their first date went well. Rose is smitten.
”Rose is really taken by Mali’s confidence,” Kirsty explains.
”When he approached her at the surf club, he had an ease she found very alluring. Rose hasn’t had any romantic interest in a while and wants to see it through.”
”I can’t do this.”
(IMAGE: Seven)Dressed to impress, Rose arrives at his caravan and things quickly heat up. But panic sets in and she pulls away. Without explaining herself she rushes from the van. What’s going on?
Kirsty says she gets why Rose has bolted from the romantic rendezvous.
”’On the most basic level, she’s simply worried about getting hurt again,” she says.
”’Rose’s apprehension is a result of her heartbreak over Tex, who badly manipulated her. She needs someone she can completely trust.”
The following day, Rose visits Mali and apologises for her hasty exit. Mali admits he’s perplexed but understands it’s hard to leave the past behind. Later, Mali finds Xander and laments that Rose broke up with him.
