In a world brimming with reality TV shows that focus on drama and jaw-dropping twists I, like many others, find myself increasingly drawn to wholesome shows that bring me joy.

Escape to the Chateau is an absolute MUST on Wednesday nights, while re-runs of Fixer Upper are one of the only things getting me through to Friday (was that too dark?). And, now, I’m adding Going Places with Ernie Dingo to the top of my must-watch list.

Ernie Dingo? Check. Stunning scenery? Check. Top travel tips for exploring Australia’s breathtaking backyard? BIG CHECK.

I am very, very ready to go explore Australia with Ernie (Image: YouTube/SBS).

In the new season of his travel program Going Places with Ernie Dingo, the much-loved presenter will be heading to every corner of the country to show off some of Australia’s most incredible landscapes.

The series already has two seasons under its belt – I’m going home to binge-watch those on SBS On Demand tonight – and has previously aired on NITV.

For the third instalment, the show will be moving to SBS with sixteen half-hour episodes airing Wednesdays at 7:30pm from June 12. Plus, viewers can take a deeper dive on NITV, with twenty hour-long episodes airing airing Sundays at 7.30pm from June 16.

Does this not look like the most joyous show on TV? (Image: SBS/NITV).

In season three, Ernie visits some incredible new destinations, including Charlotte Pass (NSW), Horizontal Falls (WA), Yirrkala (NT), Hervey Bay (QLD), Grampians (VIC), Bruny Island (TAS), Ceduna (SA), Mount Kosciuszko (NSW), Broome (WA), Jindabyne (NSW), Stradbroke Island (QLD), Lake Mungo (NSW), Gold Coast Hinterland (QLD), Strahan (TAS) and Port Lincoln (SA).

Going Places with Ernie Dingo takes people to incredible locations, but it also introduces us to the locals who call these places home.

Through his travels, he’ll meet a steam train driver, a snow groomer, a deep-thinking hiker, a passionate ecologist, a trout fisherman, a talented sculptor, an ALFW player and farmer, a former iron woman, a dinosaur enthusiast and even some of his old friends.

Of the move to the SBS channel, NITV Channel Manager Tanya Orman says she is ‘thrilled.’

Going Places with Ernie Dingo has been a firm favourite with NITV audiences for the last two seasons and I am thrilled that it will be reaching even more Australians on SBS.

“Ernie has a long history of travel presenting on Australia television and our viewers have loved seeing him in his element, travelling the country and getting to know every day Aussies along the way.

“His open and relaxed interview technique brings out some amazing stories and viewers are in for a real treat as he visits some of the most beautiful places in our country.”

Honestly, I can’t wait to watch this one.

Going Places with Ernie Dingo premieres on SBS on Wednesday 12 June at 7.30pm and on NITV on Sunday 16 June at 7.30pm.
