We have a feeling that 2018 is going to be a great year – and this movie list is proof. If you need something to look forward to, jot these flicks down in your diary. Here are the biggest films coming in 2018.
I, Tonya (in cinemas January 25)
Former Neighbours star Margot Robbie will be everywhere on the big screen this year. But this is well and truly her most-anticipated movie, with Margot playing disgraced former US figure skater Tonya Harding. The film tells the story of Tonya’s involvement in the bizarre attemptin 1994 by her ex-husband, Jeff Gillooly (Sebastian Stan), to injureher main rival Nancy Kerrigan (Caitlin Carver) so she would be unable to compete in the Winter Olympics. There’s already plenty of buzz about Margot’s performance, so we can’t wait to see her don her skates and hit the ice.
Fifty Shades Freed
Fifty Shades Freed (in cinemas February 8)
Are you ready for the biggest slice of sizzle this side of an Aussie barbie? Well, brace yourself for the final film in the raunchy Fifty Shades trilogy. Christian (Jamie Dornan) and Ana (Dakota Johnson) are now married, but that doesn’t mean their relationship has lost that special spark. There are challenges for the couple, however, with Ana’s former boss, Jack Hyde (Eric Johnson), swearing revenge on her. And Elena (Kim Basinger) returns to make Christian and Ana’s lives hell. Expect the trilogy to go out with a… er, bang!
Black Panther (February 15)
He first made an appearance in Captain America: Civil War but Black Panther is finally getting his own spin-off. The story centres on T’Challa (the Black Panther, played by Chadwick Boseman) who returns home to a technologically advanced African nation and take his place as its rightful king after the death of his father.
Tomb Raider (in cinemas March 15)
The iconic story of Lara Croft, previously played by Angelina Jolie, is getting a reboot with swedish actor Alicia Vikander. While Lara won’t be donning her equally iconic short-shorts, she is just as kick-ass as she embarks on a dangerous journey to find her father.
A Wrinkle In Time (in cinemas March 22)
Disney truly weaves it magic in this epic film based on Madeleine L’Engle’s 1962 novel of the same name. The story follows teenager, Meg, as she travels through time and space to find her missing father with the guidance of three guardian angels. It features a super star studded cast including Reese Witherspoon, Chris Pine, Mindy Kaling, Zach Galifianakis and Oprah Winfrey.
Red Sparrow (in cinemas March 18)
Jennifer Lawrence plays a former ballerina turned spy who follows a dangerous path of manipulation and seduction to protect her mother. But when a CIA agent (Joel Edgerton) turns up, everything changes.
The New Mutants (in cinemas April 12)
Unlike the traditional superhero genre of previous films, this X-Men spin-off steers much more into the realm of horror. Starring Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones) and Charlie Heaton (Stranger Things) viewers are thrown into a terrifying world of science fiction and the supernatural.
Avengers: Infinity War (In cinemas April 25)
In this Marvel crossover, the Avengers, including Iron Man (Robert Downey Jnr), Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), team up with Guardians of the Galaxy faves Peter Quill/Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Gamora (Zoe Saldana) and Groot (Vin Diesel) to battle nemesis Thanos (Josh Brolin).

Solo: A Star Wars Movie (in cinemas May 24)
Rogue One proved that Star Wars spin-off stories could actually work. And on paper at least, a film about Han Solo, one of the franchise’s favourite characters, is a no-brainer. The adventure stars Han (Alden Ehrenreich) as a young smuggler. Woody Harrelson plays Beckett, his mentor, and Donald Glover portrays a youthful Lando Calrissian.
Deadpool 2 (in cinemas June)
Our favourite foul-mouthed rogue mutant is back for round 2! This time, Josh Brolin makes his appearance as badass Cable and Zazie Beetz plays Domino.
Jurassic Park Fallen Kingdom
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (in cinemas June 7)
They’re back and hungrier than ever. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is the much-anticipated sequel to 2015’s Jurassic World. The island of Isla Nublar is overrun by dinosaurs and there’s not much anyone can do about it. But when an unpredictable volcano threatens to destroy the beasts, Owen Grady (Chris Pratt) and Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard) swing into action.
Ocean’s 8 (in cinemas June 7)
The all-female spin-off for Ocean’s 8 released its first trailer last month and it sent fans into a frenzy. The heist movie follows Danny Ocean’s sister, Debbie (Sandra Bullock), attempt to pull off a job at New York’s Met Gala. The movie stars Cate Blanchett, Rihanna, Mindy Kaling, Helena Bonham Carter, Anne Hathaway and Sarah Paulson.

Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again (in cinemas July)
In the highly anticipated sequel, Sophie (Amanda Seyfried) returns home pregnant and learns more about her mother’s (Meryl Streep) romantic past. The original cast is back plus a few fabulous extras (ahem, Cher), and it’s packed with ABBA classics. It’s almost a guarantee you’ll be shimmy-ing your way through the entire movie.
Mission: Impossible 6 (in cinemas August 2)
Tom Cruise made headlines in 2017 when he broke an ankle duringa rooftop jump while making this movie. The actor has a reputation for doing many of his own stunts. From a fan’s perspective, it probably adds to the adrenalin-charged experience knowing Tom really is out there risking his life to keep us entertained. The sixth flick in the spy franchise goes into the back story of his character, Ethan Hunt. The movie also stars Rebecca Ferguson, Alec Baldwin and Simon Pegg.
Crazy Rich Asians (in cinemas August)
Based on the best-selling novel by Kevin Kwan, this film stars Constance Wu as an NYU professor who travels to Singapore with her boyfriend. There she meets his family – and they are ridiculously rich and over-the-top.
X-Men: Dark Phoenix (in cinemas November)
Sophie Turner leads the way in this X-Men prequel as a young Jean Grey AKA Phoenix, trying to take control of her ever-growing powers. Michael Fassbender, James McEvoy, Jennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult are reprising their roles, and Jessica Chastain will make an appearance as a yet-unknown character.
Halloween (in cinemas October)
Bet you thought you’d seen the last of Michael Myers, huh? Forty years after the first film came out, Jamie Lee Curtis is making a return as epic survivor, Laurie Strode. No word yet on what the plot is but considering Michael’s head was chopped off at the end of the last flick, we’re guessing there’s maybe another vengeful copycat killer on the loose?
Fantastic Beasts
Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindewald (In cinemas November 15)
Anything remotely Harry Potter-ish is a licence to print money. The first Fantastic Beasts was a treat, incorporating elements from the Potterverse, but also bringing its own magical fun. This time, Grindelwald (Johnny Depp) escapes custody and threatens all non-magical beings. A younger Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law) enlists the help of Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) to defeat the evil wizard.
Mary Poppins Returns (in US cinemas December 25)
Disney lovers, rejoice! Mary Poppins is making a comeback and this time it’s Emily Blunt who is wearing the famous derby hat. It’s a sequel to the 1964 film, and shows the magical nanny visit a grown-up Michael Banks. Emily stars alongside Meryl Streep and Lin-Manuel Miranda.
