Melissa McCarthy has revealed to People magazine where her passion for this latest project stemmed from: “I started this line because I wanted to know: Where are the normal clothes?”
She added: “This really is a selfish venture. I wanted to build a better closet for myself.”
The mum-of-two’s collection, called Seven7, will feature sizes 4-28 and will be available from August this year.
As a plus size woman her herself, the funny-lady said that her fashion line will pay attention to the fashion faux paus that curvy women always identify in clothes.
“I’ve worn every single piece. There are little jeans that are super stretchy and they come all the way up, because I just do not need to see anyone’s muffin top, and I do not need to see anyone bend over and be able to tell what colour underwear they’re wearing anymore,” the 44-year-old told the magazine.
Clearly the Spy star is passionate about sleeves too: “there are lots of sleeves here! Hallelujah! Do you know how many fights I’ve had about sleeves?” she asked.
Before adding: “I was actually told once ‘Plus-size women do not want sleeves, in any capacity.’ I was like, ‘Are you crazy? That’s not accurate! I am plus-size, and I want them, I have friends who are size 26 and size 8 and they want a sleeve!’ Very few things don’t have sleeves. My stuff has sleeves, my stuff has pockets, you can count on that.”
Make no mistake, although a clothing line may seem like an usual career move for the actress, fashion has been a long time interest for her.
The Bridesmaids star enrolled in New York’s famous Fashion Institute of Technology before pursuing her acting dreams, which she attributes to adding a point of difference to the collection.
Melissa shed some light to People about her perspective on fashion: “Clothing and fashion should be fun, you’re supposed to put it on and then have a little kick in your step that day!”
We cannot wait to browse through Melissa’s fashion line when it’s released in August!
