Bindi Irwin has been asked to produce a death certificate for her famous father, Steve Irwin, before the courts in the US will allow her to be paid for her stellar run through Dancing With The Stars.

Hollywood website TMZ says the court asked to approve Bindi’s contract, under which she will be paid at least $US230,000 and perhaps as much as $US350,000 for her performance on the show, because, at 17, she’s a minor.

The contract makes plain that her Mum, Terri, has given up any claim she might have on Bindi’s money, but there is no signature from Dad, and without proof of Steve giving up his rights, “the court is unable to find that it is in the best interest of the minor to be bound by the terms of the contract.”

The report says it’s not clear whether the judge knows that Steve died while filming underwater with a stingray, or whether he just needs to see the death certificate.
