Victoria Beckham is looking into legal action to sue a fish and chip shop who claim their pizza crusts are thinner than her.
Sidhu Golden Fish and Chips in Battle Hill, North Tyneside have released what can only be called a pretty callous advertising campaign for their thin crust pizzas.
The local chippy has a delivery van which features an advertisement with a cartoon parody of Victoria Beckham, wearing a sash that says ‘anorexic fashion icon’.
An arrow pointing at the skeletal carton of the Spice Girl says, “this is not thin”.
Another label advertises the new pizza crusts saying, “Our new Victoria Beckham thin crust only 2mm thin”.
A spokesperson for Victoria Beckham has deemed the advertisement inappropriate.
“It is highly inappropriate to trivialise such a disorder, and defamatory to be so thoughtless with a person’s reputation in this way.”
“Sadly this is now a legal matter.”
The manager of the fish and chip shop has also released a statement saying the advert was never meant to offend anyone.
“As the manger and on the behalf of all our staff and owners I would like to state we recognise how serious eating disorders are and would never make light the seriousness of people with eating disorders,” said Soni Sidhu, manager of the Sidhu Golden Fish.
“We would like our customers and all people in general to take our advertising in context. We are not a fly by night business trying to make a quick buck. Anorexia and any mental illness are very serious.”
“We have always stated even if one individual is upset or offended by our advert we would be more than happy to take it down.”
