“I woke heavy hearted and filled with rage.” Jess Rowe stands up against the overturning of Roe v Wade

Jess Rowe has spoken out against the overturning of Roe v Wade in the United States.

The podcaster and former Studio 10 star reacted to the news that broke during the early hours on Saturday by resharing an Instagram post from The Fat Jewish.

“Time zones are crazyyy. In Australia its 9 am. In Rome it’s 1 am. And in America it’s 1942 where minorities and women are still controlled by old white men,” read the post.

In her caption, Jess revealed she “woke heavy hearted and filled with rage,” the morning after the world found out about the ruling.

“Women and girls need access to safe and legal abortions – they need control over their bodies. #roevswade,” she shared.

The Supreme Court of the United States abolished the right to abortion in the constitution over 50 years after the landmark ruling was made.

As a result, 11 states have made it illegal or heavily restricted to get an abortion and another 12 states have laws in place to ban or limit access soon.

Jess isn’t the only Aussie celeb to call out the supreme court’s decision.

Abbie Chatfield shared a lengthy post about her experience of having an abortion at 23 years old.

“This is me the day before I had my abortion, at the earliest stage you can realistically tell that you’re even pregnant,” the former Bachelor star wrote alongside a photo of herself at six week pregnant.

“Thankfully, I had access to safe abortion literally the day after finding out that I was pregnant. I remember not sleeping the night before the procedure, worried that I had missed the cut off date, and I would have to carry a child to term.

“I was 23, and had a decent job, but I did not want a child, and that was reason enough. It wasn’t an easy decision but it was the right decision.”

Married At First Sight’s Domenica Calarco also shared her defiance by posting a picture of herself giving the finger.

“My body, my choice… bitch!” she captioned the shot, sharing her own abortion story in solidarity with Abbie.

“Thank you for sharing your experience,” she began.

“I’ve often felt very apprehensive of sharing my very own experience because of the taboo nature that surrounds abortion. I cried this morning when I saw the news. I have no words.”

Former Bachelorette Brooke Blurton stood against the overturning on her socials by sharing she had an abortion a “very little time ago,” and she encouraged women to “come together.”

Samantha Armytage also made a tough stance on the supreme court by sharing a picture of the justices with the words “f— you” across the ones who chose to overturn the 1973 ruling.

“Reposting. Literally EVERY woman I know on social media, and off it. WTF is going on in the States? Guns (tick). Women’s rights (cross). Pathetic,” she captioned the image, which was also reposted by MAFS star Olivia Foster.

Former Bachelor Dr Matt Agnew shared a lengthy post slamming those against abortion.

The former reality star began by explaining to anti-vaxxers how the government did not force them to get vaccinated, and by co-opting the saying “my body, my choice’ they have impacted the pro-choice movement.

“The current situation that has arisen in the US has removed a choice from every woman in their country. The government has done the equivalent of strapping them down and sticking needles in their arms. They have been robbed of choice,” he explained.

“Now, the consequences of making their choice can result in charges or jail. So, without even considering the staggering differences in these two medical procedures, the two are profoundly different from the simple premise of choice and the lack thereof.

He continued, “Now, on to one of the fundamental differences: abortions are not fucking contagious. If someone gets an abortion, it does not affect you in the slightest. If it upsets you because it flies in the face of whatever belief system you dogmatically follow then that’s just too bad; your own personal convictions do not dictate other peoples lives. “

“In contrast, if you decide not to get a vaccine, you endanger the community. You are demanding the right to your own bodily integrity, but also the right to indirectly violate other peoples bodies with a contagious disease.”

He concluded his lengthy post by sharing, “This isn’t even the most horrific part about the overturning of Roe v. Wade. Others have discussed those parts far more articulately than I ever could, but this is my take on this particular grotesquerie.”

Alex Nation from The Bachelor is another Aussie celebrity who has bravely shared her abortion story in response to the news.

She posted a picture of herself at 16 and wrote, “As someone who has chosen abortion at the age of 16 and 25, the news of Roe V Wade being overturned was jarring.

“I wondered where and who I’d be if that fundamental right was taken away from me?

Alex penned her remorse for women in the US, “I am absolutely devastated for the people in America who have lost the right to make safe and informed decisions about their own bodies.

She went on to express feeling “terrified” for those who will “feel they need to take matters into their own hands.”

“I’m angry, I’m sad, and right now, I’m in total disbelief that in 2022, Women’s rights are STILL being taken away from them. Oppression has reared its ugly head once again,” she concluded.
