What were they thinking when they got Karl Stefanovic, himself apparently beset by marriage woes, to host the Mixed Grill segment on today’s show which of course focused on the Brangelina bust-up?
Maybe Channel 9 wanted someone who could empathise with the Hollywood couple. Maybe they wanted to diffuse all the speculation surrounding Karl’s own marriage by showing us that he has no problems.
Whatever the reason, Karl seemed to realise he was in an interesting (awkward?) position when and the guest panellists News Corp’s Sarrah Le Marquand and Nine’s finance editor Ross Greenwood started talking about public figure’s getting divorced.
“You can obviously argue it is no one’s business what is going on inside there, but they are high profile, it is a tough one,” he said.
Sarrah’s reply could probably be attributed to Karl himself: “You can’t expect anything other than for it to fold out before the media … I definitely feel for them, but like I say, of course it is going to play out before the world.”

News broke over the weekend that the Today Show host had separated from his wife of 21 years, Cassandra Thorburn, and moved out of the family home into his mate Jamie Packer’s plush Bondi apartment. He and Cassandra share three kids, Jack, 16, Ava, 11 and River, 10.

Yesterday he was notably absent from show hosting duties with the official story being that he was finishing of a story for 60 Minutes.
