Emma Watson was nervous about delivering UN speech

She made headlines when she delivered an impressive speech at the United Nations, but actress Emma Watson has admitted she was very nervous about speaking.

The 24-year-old star, who is best known for her role was Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter films, spoke to Elle UK about addressing the world on the HeForShe gender equality campaign at the UN headquarters.

“I was very nervous,” she said to the magazine.

“It wasn’t an easy thing for me to do. It felt like, ‘Am I going to have lunch with these people, or am I going to be eaten? Am I the lunch?'”

In her UN speech, Emma revealed she had experienced sexism during school.

She said she was called “bossy” when she wanted to direct school plays, whereas her male classmates didn’t face the same criticism.

She told Elle she didn’t face the same problem at home.

“I’m lucky I was raised to believe that my opinion at the dinner table was valuable. My mum and I spoke as loudly as my brothers.”
