Carrie Bickmore: ‘Baby brain is real!’

There are certain times of the day when I feel more on top of things than other moments of the day!

It’s true. Baby brain does exist.

Well, according to The Project host Carrie Bickmore, who has just returned to work after three months on maternity leave.

“Baby brain is definitely a real thing,” the mother-of-two told The Sydney Morning Herald on Wednesday, with a chuckle.

“Last night when the show was moving along so quickly I was thinking ‘wow’. My head was taking a long time to keep up.

“There are certain times of the day when I feel more on top of things than other moments of the day, which I think is what it’s like for everybody.”

During her first night back on the show the 34-year-old joked about leaking breast milk on air when the panel showed her – and viewers – photos of little Evie, stolen from Bickmore’s phone.

The presenter claims she hadn’t “jumped off the treadmill of work for years and years” so she wanted to make the most of her time in “tracksuit pants” with baby girl, Evie.

Bickmore gave birth to Evie in March, which is her first child with partner Chris Walker.

The 34-year-old also has a 7-year-old son, Ollie, with late-husband Greg Lange, who passed away in 2010 after a decade-long battle with brain cancer.

Bickmore stole the spotlight on Logies night, not just by winning the Gold Logie but with an honest, heartfelt acceptance speech dedicated to those suffering from brain cancer and their families.

And not long after the presenter pulled a blue beanie onto her head, #beaniesforbraincancer was trending.

“A lot of people have said ‘You’ve got to keep going with it, please, for us. Please keep doing something and keep creating awareness’,” Bickmore told The Sydney Morning Herald on Wednesday.

“I think I used my voice and now I really want to get out there and start doing something.

“I’m often very protective about that story because it’s not just my story; it’s my son’s journey and my late husband’s journey … but every time I do share a new part of it, I’m overwhelmed by the response.”
