Bride holds reception for homeless after groom got cold feet

“To lose out on something so important to yourself and then give it to someone else is really giving, really kind.”

A California family found a touching way to turn heartache into something beautiful by hosting a feast for the homeless community after their daughter’s wedding was cancelled.

Kari Duane’s oldest daughter, Quinn was planning on getting married on a Saturday but the Monday before, she called her parents and told them the wedding was off because her fiancé had cold feet.

Left with the logistics of cancelling a wedding, Kari realised they’d already paid $35,000 in deposits so they needed to put it to good use.

“When I found out that the wedding would not be taking place, it just seemed like, of course, this would be something that we would do to give back,” Kari Duane told KCRA.

She reached out to local homeless shelters to advertise the event and in the end, roughly 90 people came.

“To lose out on something so important to yourself and then give it to someone else is really giving, really kind,” Erika Craycraft, one of the participants, told the station.

But don’t think it ends there!

The flowers for the wedding were non-refundable so they donated them to a nursing home. And as for the couples honeymoon to Belize, it will now be a special mother/daughter trip.
