A man has been charged after a woman was allegedly doused in an accelerant and set alight as she slept in her Brisbane home.

Sigourney Coles, 28, suffered burns to her arms, chest and airway and was taken to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital on Tuesday.

Ms Coles underwent surgery overnight and was listed in a stable condition early today.

Police said a 27-year-old Wavell Heights man, who was known to the victim, had been charged with one count each of attempted murder and enter with intent.

It’s alleged the man entered the residence on Aldea Circuit in Bracken Ridge, in Brisbane’s north, around 10.40am on Tuesday, through an unlocked back door and doused the woman in petrol.

According to the Courier Mail, Ms Coles’ two flatmates, who were at home at the time of the attack, put her in the shower to ease the burns as they waited for emergency services.

“Her clothes were on fire, the carpet, her bed as well,” the woman’s housemate, Phillipa Allanson, told 9NEWS. “It just broke us, we couldn’t even be in the house while she was getting treated by the ambulance.”
