People just can’t get enough of the cult film series Sharknado.

The fifth instalment, Sharknado: Global Swarming, will premiere on SyFy Monday, August 7, at 2pm.

The film’s official tagline, the result of a fan-sourced social initiative, is “Make America Bait Again!”

Filming took place in Bulgaria, England and Australia and his time around, you can expect to see some familiar faces including Olivia Newton-John and Today hosts Karl Stefanovic and Lisa Wilkinson.

“Lisa and I have reported on some pretty significant events in our time, but nothing could prepare us for this,” Karl said on Today.

“Karl and I came face-to-face with a Sharknado,” Lisa added.

“They’re playing themselves,” director Anthony C Ferrante explained. “So if they can’t play themselves I think we’re going to be in very big trouble.”

Despite the relatively easy brief, the nerves may have got to Karl.

“You won’t believe how horrifically bad we are,” he said.

Other notable cameos include Fabio, Tony Hawk, Clay Aiken, Margaret Cho, Charo, Gilbert Gottfried, Porsha Williams.

Ian Ziering and Tara Reid are also set to reprise their roles for the fifth film.

Just in case you’re not up to date with the complicated plotlines of the previous four films, the Sharknado first appeared in Los Angeles, then New York City before moving on to the East Coast. At the end of Sharknado: The 4th Awakens, the storm had spread to Paris.

In Sharknado: Global Swarming, most of North America has been devastated by the Sharknado and the world is braced for a global attack. Fin (Ian Ziering) must put a stop to the disaster before earth is obliterated.
