Delta’s baby shock: ‘I can’t wait to be a mum!’

Australia’s sweetheart Delta Goodrem is determined to be a mum, even if she needs a miracle to make it happen.

The 29-year-old, who has started coaching a group of adorable youngsters on The Voice Kids, tells Woman’s Day exclusively that she is excited about the next chapter in her life.

“I love kids and I’m definitely looking forward to that chapter in my life, I really am!” she says.

Delta gave up her chair on The Voice to be part of The Voice Kids as a coach alongside the Madden Brothers and Mel B. The super star singer admits that working on the show has reminded her of how much she wants to be a mum.

Although she is single, Delta says she has thought about having a family, but doesn’t know whether her chemo treatment for cancer in 2003 has affected her ability to conceive naturally.

“I don’t know if I’ll be able to have kids because the treatment can make you infertile,” she reveals.

“At 18, I felt I was too young to even think about having my eggs frozen.”

But Delta is staying positive and it’s obvious from her nurturing nature on the show that she was born to be a mum.

“I feel like I’ve always naturally felt a level of connection and communication with kids of any age,” she explains. “Ever since I can remember, I’ve always been like that, so it’s nice.”

Delta’s motherly instincts are also  thanks to the close bond she shares with her own mother Lea, who she nursed through breast cancer in 2007. “I treat every day with her as a gift,” she says.

Delta is now looking forward to working on the show with her team of talented young singers.

“The show has been so much fun – it’s been amazing to watch the kids go through such a wonderful experience,” she reveals.

“They’re so young, but when they start singing they turn into different people. They sing with such maturity and emotion.”
