Australian actor Samuel Johnson has been tirelessly campaigning to raise funds and awareness for his charity Love Your Sister, in support of his terminally ill sister Connie.

Although, Connie, 40, has since been hit with the tragic revelation that her body just can’t take on any more chemotherapy.

“I thought maybe it was time to consider stopping treatment,” she tells the Canberra Times. “So we called a family meeting. And basically, it wasn’t my choice. I can’t have any more chemo medically. So that’s a game-changer.”

But the mother-of-two isn’t finished fighting. The Love Your Sister charity is organising the Big Heart Project, a fundraising event to take place on May 10. Connie is hoping to raise another $1 million for breast cancer research.

“We would love Canberran villagers to come down and say g’day to me and it gives me an opportunity to thank them for their support over the years,” she says.

Since their charity began, Connie and her brother Samuel have raised $2.1 million for breast cancer research.

Last year Samuel announced that he would be quitting acting in order to place all his efforts into his charity work.

“I cannot play pretend on telly while our families are falling,” he wrote on the Love Your Sister Facebook page. “Cancer is the last true riddle of our time (not of our doing) and I wanna be part of the push to solve it once and for all.”

Samuel Johnson as Molly Meldrum

His most recent role was playing Molly Meldrum in Channel Seven’s biopic Molly, for which he won an AACTA award last year. He has also been nominated for Best Actor and is up for the Gold Logie at the 2017 TV WEEK Logie Awards to be held on April 23.

Our hearts go out to Connie, Samuel and their family during this extremely difficult time. You can donate to their charity Love Your Sister here.
