If you’ve ever wondered how actors or those dating actors feel about watching their partner play intense or romantic scenes on screen, you’re not alone.

In a candid interview with Australian 60 Minutes last night Keith Urban confirmed our suspicions, admitting he struggled to watch wife Nicole Kidman in hit series Big Little Lies.

Playing Celeste Wright on the HBO drama, Nicole’s character endured an abusive relationship that Keith says was “very heavy” to watch, particularly “because she’s so bloody good.”

Celeste and Perry’s marriage were troubled.

The 52-year-old musician says he has to remind himself it’s all an act.

“It’s hard to tell your soul that she’s an actor and she’s acting, cause your soul is just alerted to this.”

Telling himself: “It’s okay mate, it’s okay just calm down, she’s just acting.”

Season one of the series centred on Nicole’s character Celeste and her abusive husband, Perry, played by Alexander Skarsgård.

Fans who have watched the confronting and violent scenes will know all too well how uncomfortable it can be to sit through.

Keith admitted is was difficult to stomach.

Discussing filming such intense scenes with Vanity Fair in 2017, Aleksander said he and Nicole made an effort to look after one another during shooting.

“It was very important to reconnect after shooting those scenes,” the 44-year-old said. “We made a point of checking in with each other, giving each other a hug.”

Alexander, Keith and Nicole made headlines in 2017 after the actress kissed her co-star on the lips at the Emmys as he stood up to accept an award. Meanwhile, Keith looked on unfazed.

The somewhat controversial moment was then brought up while Nicole appeared as a guest on The Graham Norton Show.

“I kissed my husband too,” she began, “I did kiss him because — but you gotta understand, I did everything with Alex.

“I’ve got an amazing, supportive, gorgeous husband who I love more than anything in the world and I gave Alex a congratulatory kiss and he’s like a mannequin.”

Nicole and Keith are as loved up as ever.
